Ready To Walk On Water?

I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?

Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!

Why Before What

Why you do what you do matters. Why? Because how you define your why will reveal your heart.

Why do you blog?

Why do you coach?

Why do you speak?

Why do you do what you do?

If you are struggling for an answer, you are not alone. For the longest time I knew I had a passion to write, but I never clearly discovered my why. Taking the time and prayer to really discern my why has ignited a passion, directly rooted in Scripture that fuels everything I do in life.

I coach, speak and write because I believe more people yearn to experience the authentic, deeply rooted and overflowing love of God in their life. I know there are far too many dreamers walking in defeat, just trying to survive through their day. Dreamers that see their dream as too far away from becoming reality. Dreamers that settle on letting their present dictate their future. But I have been given a passion to walk with survivors who want to see their dream come to reality. I walk with people who are no longer satisfied going through life “as-is” but want to be used as His. I challenge everyone to dare to do more than just survive, stand-out and thrive.

I found my why rooted in my favorite Bible passage. There is a reason you resonate with certain Bible passages more than others. Dare to go deeper. Explore why your favorite Scripture means so much to you. It may just lead you to your life mission and vision statements as well.

Two Steps To Help You Discover Your WHY In Scripture:

  1. Claim His Promise! Add your name to your Bible passage. Read it back and allow God to sing His promises and Truth into your heart.
  2. Break It Down. Take your Bible passage apart and really dig into why this passage speaks to you.

You can do this! Take your time. Here is what I have completed with my passage:

Bethany, I will make My home in your heart as you trust in Me. Your roots will grow down into My love and keep you strong. And Bethany, you have the power to understand, as all My people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep My love is. May you experience My love, though it is too great to understand fully. Then Bethany you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from Me. Now Bethany,  give me glory because I Am able through My mighty power at work within you to accomplish infinitely more than you might ask or think. (based on Ephesians 3:17-20 NLT)

I will make my home in your heart – The God of this passage is the same God Who created the heavens and the earth, guided Noah into the ark, brought the Psalms to David’s lips, allowed His Son to be born in a manger and rolled away the stone to the eternal grave on the third day. That same God wants to continually live in the midst of the crowded uncertainties, fears, failures, and hurt that crowds the corners of your heart. But He knows His presence will bring about change and a new life inside of us.

… as you trust in Me – I love that term “as.” Notice it does not say “once” you trust in Me or “now that you finally,” trust in Me.” The term “as” implies a growing relationship. Trust isn’t instantly earned. God knows we struggle to stop because that requires denying of ourselves, going against the flow of the world and purposefully acknowledging that we need Him. That takes time and a daily, sometimes even hourly recommitment. But as we are learning, God is continually investing in us.

Your roots will grow down into My love – But once we learn how to trust Him through resting in Him, we begin to grow roots down into His promises that we can actually believe. When you are truly rooted in His Word, claiming His promises personally with your name attached, it re-wires your thoughts, grounds emotions, and completely changes your actions. His Word speaks His love directly to the areas of our heart that desperately need to hear it the most.

…and keep you strong. – Resting in His presence will not make the struggles of life melt away. Yet, believing in His promises allows us to know that we are not alone and we know how the story ends. It allows us to gain the strength to persevere during the worst life circumstances with Him and through Him.

You have the power to understand, as all My people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep My love is. May you experience My love, though it is too great to understand fully. – Stopping allows us to come to human grasps and understand unending, unconditional constant relational love. As our relationship grows with God, most likely our relationships with others will begin to change as well. Knowing His love cannot even be fully comprehended here on this earth means that we should never quit growing in our desire to know Him more.

You will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from Me- Running continually drains the life and power from our lives, yet right here is His promise  to make our lives complete by simply continuing to rest in Him. The best part is, friend, He sees us as complete, not by our work or influence, but by our deeply rooted life in His love. We don’t make life exciting, He does.

Now Bethany,  give me glory because I Am able through My mighty power at work within you to accomplish infinitely more than you might ask or think – God is able to see our dreams way before they have ever formed in our hearts. He gave us these dreams and placed His power inside of us. God can give us our dreams and so much more. We have His power, it’s time to use it!
