Ready To Walk On Water?

I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?

Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!

#UnMasked Is Coming

Have you ever had one of those moments where your own words come back to whisper in your ear?

  • On a day when absolutely nothing can come quick enough you stumble upon your journal entry asking God to teach you patience.
  • While at the dinner table, your child looks quietly into your eyes as you chew your food. You hear, “It’s okay, I’ll pray tonight mom.”
  • You despise the statement “Do as I say, not as I do” yet, it does come in handy.
  • Or you write a book about slowing down and seeing God in the storm, only to encounter rough waters of your own just weeks before launch day.

On October 8th, as I was driving our boys home from a surprise after-school venture to the park and our van was hit head-on. The driver just purchased a house and was lost. We met, with a crash, as she tried to make an illegal u-turn.

I must have replayed those first few seconds through my head a zillion times by now. I heard the screeching of tires. I took in the the smell of rubber. But nothing ached as much as hearing the screams of all three of my boys coming from behind me. My airbag deployed, but the dashboard had collapsed into my lap.

I was stuck.

I heard my boys screaming and I couldn’t comfort them.

I saw their faces reflecting in horror through the rear-view mirror.

The fluid leaking around me didn’t seem to matter. Nor did the smoke. Nor did the pain I felt all through my body.

I needed to get to my kids. Now.

Eventually, a by-stander came to rescue the boys and helped a few others pry open my driver’s side door to free me from the wreckage.

We were all safe. That, by far, is the most important detail here. But what a crazy whirlwind these past few weeks have been for our family.

  • I now have 2 back seat drivers in child-sized forms
  • Each time we leave the house we must pray that we don’t “get crashed into again.”
  • We have shared countless conversations about how “cool” it was for the nice police officer to take us home in the back seat of his car, delivering us right to our driveway. (Yep, wonder what the neighbors thought of that one!).
  • And then I received the news that my headache and exhaustion was much more than I thought. On Friday I was diagnosed with a concussion. (But praising God for no brain bleed as originally thought!).

The weeks leading up to a book release can indeed be stressful. But for an author recovering from a concussion, stress is not an option. As in, not allowed. Not even joking. Thus, my quiet time with God has increased. I’ve found myself literally crying out to Him over piles of laundry that is taking me so much longer to complete now. The best part? God is here, right in my mess, preparing His message.

As a good friend told me today, “Bethany, you put so many good stories into your book, God is providing you with fresh content for your next one!”

the storm

Yes, never a dull moment in the Boring household.

Don’t focus too much on what you are missing that you forget what He has already given you. Today, this day, your breath and this amazing gift of life. Don’t blink, don’t doubt and don’t sit around on the bleachers too long.

God has a book for you to write.

A song for you to sing.

A message for you to speak.

A life that He made you to live.

I wanted to include a message from my boys that they made just for my Launch Team (you can join too). See below:

First, congratulations! Second, please take care! Third, thank God you all were okay, for the most part! Fourth, thank you for the encouragement today. I am in a bit a state of confusion. I work full time and am gone from 6:45am to 5:30pm. Kids are grown, but still have to cook dinner, do wash, etc. On top of that, write a blog and berate myself daily for not working on the book that I have outlined, first 3 chapters written—fourth ready to write…then trying to figure out how to “grow my platform/tribe.” It’s just too much. I admit, I get a little envious when I see all these other bloggers with a book, and I want to write one and can’t seem to figure out how to do it all. So, your “Don’t focus too much on what you’re missing that you forget what He has already given you. God has a book for you to write…” I’m an encourager and as such, sometime fail to encourage myself. I preach positive thinking, then beat myself up when I’m negative! Instead of feeling sorry for myself today, I need to just focus on all I AM doing, instead of what I’m NOT doing. (I’d offer to be part of your launch team, but I think I have so much on my plate already! I’m sure you’ve got a great team). Blessings to you and on your book.

Bethany, I am so looking forward to reading your book. I am going to put it on my Christmas wish list. You are a true inspiration. I love your heart of passion for sharing your story to help others on life’s journey.

Blessing my friend!

WOAH!!! I had missed all of these details in the craziness of #write31days month & had been praying for you by letting God fill in the details. I’m thankful that I got YOUR POST as one of my 5-4-5 today! Thank you! And, PRAYERS CONTINUE!!! stuckinindiana 🙂

Dianne Thornton says October 21, 2015

Wow!! What a story! So glad you are all ok. These words brought tears to my eyes …
“Don’t blink, don’t doubt and don’t sit around on the bleachers too long.

God has a book for you to write.”

May write31days will get me there! ((hugs)) to you and your boys!!

Chris Carter says October 21, 2015

Oh Bethany!!!! I had no idea you got into such a horrific accident!! Thanking GOD you were all okay!!! (Despite your injuries- I’m so sorry!!- Mostly grateful your kids were protected!!)

Wow girl… I have to agree with your friend. God is just giving you more miraculous material to use in your next book!!

What a way to shake things up, huh? Hold on tight, my friend. I have a good feeling you are in for an incredibly powerful journey with this book! God’s got great plans for you, and for your message, and ultimately for His Purpose!!

Sarah Koontz says October 21, 2015

Ok, so my first thought is…cruel and unusual punishment. But then, you mentioned how the circumstance has forced you into His arms during a stressful season pre-book-launch. And you know what, that is such a beautiful gift! He’s forced you out of yourself and into Him. Which, I am guessing, is EXACTLY where you should be.

Meg Gemelli says October 21, 2015

Congratulations Bethany! What an exciting, I mean, restful time for you;) I join you in praying against any stress or chaos that might be set forth against God’s words being released through your project. In Jesus’ name, amen!!

Tara says October 21, 2015

So glad you are all safe. Loved the video of your boys.

Anita Ojeda says October 21, 2015

Woot! Woot! Congratulations on your upcoming launch. I hope you feel better quickly and I’m so glad only the van sustained serious injuries.

brianna says October 21, 2015

I joined your launch team. Love launching books. Gets me ready to do my own someday. 🙂

Mary Geisen says October 21, 2015

I am so blessed by you! What a beautiful thing for your friend to say about content for another book. She knows you well. Cheering you on as your book launches into the world. Prayers are coming your way.

Carol says October 21, 2015

Oh goodness have you been through a lot. I think it helps us when we can laugh and say, “more fodder for a book!” But truly, sometimes I wish I was done having things to write about! I’m thankful you’re ok and especially your boys, as well. God bless on your new launch. Your boys did a great job! 😉

Lori Schumaker says October 21, 2015

Praising God you and your children were okay, as well as the other driver. I will pray that God fills you with peace as you think of your to-do list knowing that right now God will fill the gaps. Your condition will point to His glory as the book launch and success of it are revealed!

I am SO glad we were neighbors at #TellHisStory!

Blessings and smiles,

Rachel Britton says October 22, 2015

Bethany, reading your bio you have quite a story to tell already, as well as the story you have just shared, and I presume this is the subject of your book. I love the title – the journey from surviving to thriving. Thank you for the message to not focus on what we’re missing but what God has given us.
