Ready To Walk On Water?

I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?

Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!

The Super Power of Vulnerability: Stories from Ukraine Series

I stood facing eyes that stared deeply into mine. As I began to share my testimony that I have never really felt like I belonged, heads started bobbing in agreement. I shared about my various physical challenges and for the first time, I received clapping and nods of approval. I was standing in front of a group of special needs young adults and their fearless caregivers.

I felt right at home.

I referenced the need to change my hearing-aid battery and several pointed to the aids dangling from their ears. I talked about how my short right arm began curled up in a ball and many pointed to their tightly wound arms. I shared how hard it can be wanting our bodies to function in a way that they are unable to do. Many eyes began tearing-up – not just the students but the caregivers as well.

I had been looking forward to this day for months. I learned how many with disabilities in Ukraine are still shunned out on the street. The buildings are nearly impossible for wheelchairs to enter. Many caregivers admitted that it was physically and emotionally easier to just stay at home.

It’s a culture of limited to absolutely no support. A culture that tells you that you are on your own. An encouragement to hold it all inside. But honestly, is that even possible?

On this day we did crafts, shared stories, swapped email addresses and made connections that encourage me every single week.

One caregiver came to speak with me and had tears in her eyes. “You are amazing,” she said, I looked around and thought for sure she had to be referring to someone else. But no, she pointed me out plainly.

“You are my superhero” she exclaimed. We all know that wasn’t going to continue well without me getting in a word.

I shared again how God had to chase me down until I really believed that He did not create mistakes. I shared with her the countless struggles that I was going through currently. “I’m not the superhero here. Christ is.”

She began to share how badly she wanted others to connect with, to let their guard down and share the struggles of being a full-time caregiver. My heart broke. Vulnerability can’t be learned. It’s a big step of faith that requires trust and a willingness to possibly be hurt. Many in Ukraine choose not to venture there.

Many in the USA fear to let their masks down.

I can relate and friend, I know you can too.

But on this amazing day, I saw walls crumble in awesome ways. I am hoping God opens the door for me to return to Ukraine and work with this hurting yet so incredible community.

Are you ready to put your mask down?
