I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?
Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!

As a mom, I find myself saving the most “unique” treasures from my three amigos. A lion made from a paper plate. A handprint missing a middle finger. A strand of hair from each child upon his first purposeful (or accidental) haircut. A few weeks ago I added a special card to the box…a card that reminded me how truly valuable we are to God.
As my fingers stretched across the bright yellow envelope this past Mothers Day afternoon, I was reminded that this was the first gift my oldest son had ever truly prepared for me. I bit my lip slightly trying to prepare myself for my six-year-old’s creation. Inside I found a card which he had made, complete with a picture informing me of why he loved me and a note inside.
Yes friends, my son knows who cleans his clothes and he is a happy boy for it…and as long as the washer keeps doing its thing, this momma will remain in her “happy place” as well.
But to you, a reader, an on-looker…a stranger peering into a moment of my world, this card seems like a nice school project to make mom feel a bit more confident about the school supply list chaos completed a few months ago. You hesitate to point out the obvious mistakes, flaws in the spelling and the grease stains smeared throughout the card. But to me, his mom, this is nothing short of a masterpiece. I know that my son had choices of which sign to hold for the cover of this card. I also remember countless conversations I’ve shared with him while folding laundry…moments I now realize he will never forget. I also know that my kiddo loves to talk, but currently despises writing. With each stroke that I read that day, I understood the effort he put into making it as perfect as he could manage. He loves telling me that I am the “best mom in the world” but to see this in writing just impressed it into the roots of my “mommy” heart.
I knew my son’s heart and thus I was able to reap the true joy of this purposeful masterpiece. This was not a mistake. His work was intended in advance for me, by him and for my limitless joy. What you see as careless mistakes, I only see as a limitless future.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
Just as my son took time to decide how the card would be constructed, what color the envelope should be or how exactly to hand me his work – we have an Abba that has indeed spent a lifetime creating us for this very moment. In the above passage, it paints such an amazing picture.
What if by chance we were His masterpiece?
What if the flaws we seem to notice are the very paint strokes that help us breathe in new life?
What if we could really see ourselves as His true, beautiful, purposeful Masterpiece?
Do you see yourself as His Masterpiece?
I missed seeing myself through His eyes for most of my life. As I looked at His work called my life, I just could not get past the uneven surface, the cracked clay, the various holes that seemed too large for repair and the reality that I was shattered to the point I had given up hope for repair. Plus, truthfully, I would never look like the other Masterpieces I noticed around me. Through my eyes, others seemed to have their edges smoothed, paint glazed and purpose completely filled. I simply settled for being incomplete.
A masterpiece only gains value once it can securely rest in the hands of the Potter.
Value is something every living human being chases after. Every Masterpiece not only has tremendous value – it’s the highest price for which we were indeed purchased. When Jesus Christ suffered on the cross and died for our sins, our value was deemed as irreplaceable by God Himself. He purchased us way before we knew we had anything to offer…and He gave us real meaning and life in Him. Just as Christ raised to life, we too through His eyes can see ourselves as valued children of God. But, that only occurs if we stop trying to smooth our own edges…or earn our own value – our way.
Have you ever experienced resting in His hands?
From one Masterpece to another, I’ll let you in on a little secret…when you are able to truly open the heart of your canvas completely to His grace, an amazing life of fulfillment in His plan can begin. In order to open up your heart, you must first learn how to rest in His hands.
The very same Hands that formed the world into existence…
The same Hands that parted the Red Sea…
The same Hands that tore down the wall of Jericho and rebuilt the wall for Nehemiah…
The same Hands that set the apostles free from prison and welcomed Stephen Home…
The same Hands that called Jesus out from the grave…
Those same Hands that crafted every feature of your life exactly so you could be written perfectly into His story…
Those Hands want nothing more than to hold you, value you, protect you, define you, sustain you and support you up so that you can take your place as His Masterpiece.
Then one day, you my friend will be carried up to His Throne and presented to Him with the various colors you have gained through your life journey. He will know you. He will look at you and call you by name. You are His Masterpiece and His Child.
No mistakes allowed.
