Ready To Walk On Water?

I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?

Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!

“New” (5 Minute Friday)

This Sunday, I will be walking into an entirely new situation. I guess you could say I’m going against the flow of my ordinary, routinely scheduled life. Instead of sitting quietly beside my husband at church, I will be speaking, in a contest at a resteraunt nowhere near my normal surroundings.

I’m extremely uncomfortable.

To make matters a bit more enticing, I’m a humorous speech contestant. My speech thrives on how I can laugh at my disabilities. I’ll be sharing how riding a skateboard down the aisle of a moving school bus without my hearing-aids or glasses was not a smart idea – but ended in my own laughter. I’ll also be sharing the story of my first skydive (which I blogged about earlier this week). But my focus is simple – don’t allow others to define you. In this life, we have been given the freedom to redefine our circumstances. We have the power through Christ to determine how our lives will look, feel and essentially be remembered.

With that in mind, I’m starting a new path in the world of public speaking. I’m shaking just typing those words – yet I’ve seen God just completely takeover my shining moment. It feels just like moving my fingers on this keyboard, watching these words come out so easily – well, you simply know God is behind every letter. It’s completely Him. When I speak, He takes over and I feel free.

New, for me, is simply taking a risk outside of my comfort zone. Placing my shaking hand in His firm grip and finally understanding this is what I was made to do. I’m made to walk in the new unknown He has already planned for me long ago.

So tonight, I hear Abba whisper:

“But forget all that (I have done in your life thus far) Bethany, it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? (Stop right now and soak up the opportunity around you!) I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. (Isaiah 43:18, 19 NLT) *Parenthesis emphasis added by me (of course!).

One foot in front of the other…here WE go…

Are you embarking on a new adventure? Please share in the comments section! I’d love to hear about it!

This is an early Friday post if you are following my “Whispers With Abba” series!

5 Minute Friday is a weekly challenge for bloggers to write for (you guessed it) 5 minutes on a given word. No editing. No deleting (it’s HARD!). I tied this into my “Whispers With Abba” series for October. If you would like to join me and other amazing 5 minute freewriting friends, please visit Kate’s blog and linkup!

I AM embarking on a new experience. I lost my husband on July 21, 2014…so that new experience is living without him after 36+ years. Good luck to you in your public speaking adventure. I would be shaking in my boots too! Visiting from FMF

    Paula –
I am so sorry for your loss. I simply have no words. Praying for this new journey.

I remember the first time I sang on stage for the worship team, I thought I’d lose my cookies. Public speaking is something I steer clear of at all costs. May you walk through that door which your head held high, knowing He’s called you and has gone before you to prepare the way. Blessings!

    Barbie –
I’m amazed at those that can sing in public – even more in awe at those who actually sound good when they sing in public! Ha! You go girl! Thanks for dropping by!

Good for you! Public speaking is crazy, but fun. Of course, I get to practice ‘being up front’ with my students on a daily basis, so it’s not too terrifying :). May God continue to use you for his purpose and give you his words. The #write31days (fmf style) is my big challenge. I’m having fun and enjoying the community so far.

Right on Anita! I worked in children’s ministry for 9 years, training volunteers, leading meetings and of course teaching kids. Yet, this whole public speaking – as in being seen as an inspirational speaker is indeed, like you said “crazy fun.” Glad we made this connection! I’ll be checking on your blog this month! Love this challenge!

Oh goodness, my nerves are hackled for you. But in a good way! I love when God grabs us by the hand (shaking knuckles and all) and with glee bounces us through the fields into a new place. A new place alive with wonder and grace and passion and beauty! I pray your steps of faith simply fuel the fire burning in your soul! Cheers to new adventures with a God who loves to dream in His people!

Good morning, Bethany!
So glad to join you here today. I love the words “placing my shaking hand in His firm grip” because it reminds me that we have someone stronger by our sides when we are embarking on a new venture. I will be moving into the unknown when I retire at the end of this school year and I have no idea what is next but I’m praying and relying on God to be with me step by step. Have a beautiful weekend!

    Mary –
Thanks so much for connecting me with the 5 Minute Friday group! I feel like you guided me to this new adventure! As you walk closer to your retirement, I pray God will clearly show you the keys to your new adventure that awaits.
