I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?
Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!
There I sat, staring endlessly at yet another complex notebook piece of paper. I had one squiggly line drawn down the middle with my “Pros” and “Cons” columns both even. As I held my pen tighter hoping that perhaps another brilliant point would suddenly appear, hopelessness began to creep in.
I felt stuck.
…………………….I felt a tad bit alone.
……………………..Mostly I sat undecided…and that is the hardest place to be.
I was trying to decide if it was time to start speaking publicly about my story. If you’ve read my book “UnMasked” – well, you know I have stories to share. Yet, to talk openly and vulnerably about my disabilities, cancer journey and my feeling of constantly never being good enough – well, that was an entirely different type of courage. Sometimes, I believe authors and bloggers do such an amazing job at hiding behind their words, they are an entirely different person in real life. I didn’t want to be that. I knew God had called me to more – but perhaps my more could be a bit more private?
Let’s face it – pros and cons don’;t work for everyone. I know they don’t work for me. However, I have found a strategy that does work and it’s exactly what I followed to break-free from the dreaded two column notebook paper nightmare.
In her book “The Best Yes,” Lysa Terkeurst uncovers 5 easy questions she uses to discern tough choices. What I’ve found is that these questions help me make a Godly decision, guilt-free that sticks and convicts me to keep moving forward.
The best decision sticks if it convicts.
Your concern over why things need to change convicts you to make the best decision, not just the easy answer. It helps you go longer, rather than faster. It helps you to play smarter rather than harder.
“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it — lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’?” – Luke 14:28-30
Too many times we make split decisions that lead us into the dessert without any water. Other times we take too long to act on a choice that the defining moment has passed us by. What if there was a way to be prepared and move forward with confidence?
(As always, my graphics are a gift to you. Feel free to share!)
1. Do I have the resources to handle this request along with my current responsibilities? (Make a list of your current responsibilities. If you want to add something, what will you remove from your plate?)
2. Could this fit physically? (How will this impact your physical health? How will this add to your stress?)
3. Could this fit financially? (If you don’t have a buget, now is the perfect time to start one! If this decision requires money, how will you gain it back? Is it worth the risk?)
4. Could this fit spiritually? (How does this decision bring you closer to God? Hint – if you can’t answer this, try asking “Can this decision keep me from walking with God everyday?”)
5. Could this fit emotionally? (There is only so much emotional energy we can handle and everyone has a different threshold. How will this decision free you emotionally? Will it cause you to hide emotions you may be feeling?)

If you have followed me for very long, you know that I love my Evernote and I literally have a template with these questions that I complete if I feel stuck. I add in Bible passages that I am reading at the time. I pray over these answers and then, with God’s presence, most difficult choices become confident decisions. I literally see God’s hand work through these powerful questions here.
And for those wondering, I did start speaking about my story and the journey has been incredible! I’ve never felt so alive, yet balanced as well. Yes, God gives us peace in our confident decisions.
Do you feel stuck today? Feel free to go through the exercise above and let me know how it came out for you! Let’s begin making confident decisions together, one choice at a time.
