Ready To Walk On Water?

I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?

Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!

How Mommy Finally Got Her Turn

I’ll never forget finally getting my turn on the giant inflatable slide this past summer.

Granted, I understand other moms out there have gracefully jolted up the velcro staircase to the top of these jiggling-air filled contraptions with ease. I get that there is this instantaneous joy experienced when you push off holding hands with your very own child as your body jiggles in rhythm all the way down to the bottom.

Perhaps those are the very reasons more moms don’t do these types of activities.

But that’s not me. Remember the skydiving post? Or the daredevil who rode a skateboard on the bus? Yes…slides don’t scare me. If anything, I can’t wait for my turn (in my house, mommy always gets a turn…I call it teaching my loves how to share).

However, this day was different. During my battle with cancer, I finally reached a point that I was feeling decent and was allowed to be in public. The boys chose to go to a local inflatable kids play center. What I thought was going to be a relaxing afternoon watching them play, turned into repeatedly suffering through saying, “Mommy can’t take a turn with you on the slide today. I simply don’t have the strength or energy. I love you. Look, I’ll take a picture.”

Total. Mom. Fail.

Weeks later my oldest was begging to go back. With each step I took without my cane, he begged to go back to the big inflatable slide so he could go down with mommy.

He waited days.

He waited weeks.

He waited months.

But finally, this summer, I surprised my boys by pulling into the parking lot and standing in front of the big slide.

Shoes flew off fast. Oh yes…it was finally mommy’s turn.

I took a video of the event because this indeed was a huge milestone for me…and frankly I never want to forget the look on my kids faces. Ever.

Here is the link to my tweet this summer with the video

May you never miss a turn to play with your kids and remember what childlike faith looks like.

Dear Bethany … I’m just plain INSPIRED by your story tonight. Your little ones see one brave mama standing strong and tall.

So absolutely cool to meet you at FMF!

Warmest blessings …

Thanks for dropping by Linda! Your words encouraged me?

Bethany, I think this whole story is very brave. There’s no hint of a fail anywhere in it. Its inspiring that you always want to participate with your kids. Its so necessary. We so need to be those people who play with our kids. There is simply nothing in all this world that speaks to them like that does. If you do it while sick and in cancer battle none of us have any excuse. I think those big slides are intimidating too. And it has nothing to do with a cane or being sick!

Agreed friend! I believe all of us moms struggle with playing wholeheartedly with our kids in the midst of our constant moving world. Thanks for dropping by!

You’re a BRAVE woman 🙂 and an inspiration to the rest of us moms!

Not sure if I’m brave…sometimes I don’t think all the way through things until it’s too late…ha! Thanks for dropping by friend!

That was awesome! You’re right – the look on your son’s face was priceless. Thanks for the reminder that it’s more important to take advantage of the little moments, even when we look silly. The memories are much more important than how we look to others. And truth be told, I think we all want to be the woman who has fun with her kids without caring about what others think.

Love your conclusion here! Thanks for dropping by!
