I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?
Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!
As a mom of three boys, the drive home from the church can be very lively. My boys tell it like it is.
I ask questions.
They ask questions.
We keep it real.
No holding back.
So, it was Sunday, March 24th and the van was leaving the church parking lot.
Conversation game on.
Middle kiddo: Mom, why do people think it’s so hard to get to Jesus?
Me: What do you mean buddy?
Middle kiddo: Like you believe and Jesus comes in your heart and stuff, right?
Me: Well yes. You hear the Good News and then you believe in the salvation Jesus brings. You repent of your sins and confess that Jesus is Lord with your mouth. Then yes buddy, the Holy Spirit comes in and stays with you forever. You are baptized and you follow Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
Middle kiddo: Yes see that’s not that hard.
Me: Hey guys, question, how good do you have to be to get to heaven?
Oldest: You can’t be good enough.
Middle kiddo: Yea, you believe Jesus is Lord, trust Him and He says you are good to go.
Good to go.
Wow. That phrase really hit home with me.
What my boys didn’t realize is that our sermon that Sunday was centered on answering that question: How good is good enough? I wasn’t sure my boys knew the answer, but they instantly replied gracefully.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV
So many times I fall into the trap that if I do not succeed in my assigned task, that somehow I will lose favor with God. If a ministry event has fewer attendees than expected, I will disappoint God. When I mess up and lose my mind with my boys (yes, it happens) that God will turn his back on me.
My mind seems to tell me that God would never reject me in my failures, but my heart feels otherwise.
I know I’m not alone here.
If you are doubting God’s love for you today as you feel the weight of your sin, shame, regret, and pain threaten to take you under – can I whisper Truth to your soul?
God has not rejected you.
In fact, grace and freedom are here for your taking through faith in Jesus. Right here. Right now.
God will never ask you to do anything more to receive His love than to simply believe and receive.
No trying harder.
No getting cleaned-up first.
No trying to go back and change the past.
Simply believe and receive. That’s it. We are “good to go.”
Good to go into the world and live through Him.
Good to go live the life we were created to live.
Good to go soar in freedom.
Good to go lead others to Him.
I’m so glad I am good to go. How about you?
