Ready To Walk On Water?

I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?

Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!

A Few Of My Favorite “Filling” Things

Abba Daddy –

Your love for me is too great for me to understand. No matter where I look, You are always there, regardless if I choose to see You or not. I cannot go anywhere You are not and nothing can ever seperate me from Your love! That is too humbling, amazing and makes me want to worship.

Resting.JPGOh, how You fill me in the most incredible yet everyday ways.

I see You in the bright colors of the sunrise before my morning run.

As I run, without headphones today, I hear You ask me, “How are you doing, really?” And You actually wait for my hesitant response…and then we talk.

I see You sometimes in the clouds, painting pictures at just the right time. You are an amazing Painter.

Hearing the laughter of my husband in unison with our three boys – oh, it makes me smile and my cup overflows.

Splashing in the bathtub, giggles in the bubbles and singing the very songs I know will be forever stuck in my head…and smiling at what You have made.

Spontaneous dance sessions in the kitchen, glancing through old photo albums and chasing after the naked child that got away…these are the moments I see You, My Daddy, smiling with me.

Lying on the couch at night after a hard day with my husband – often times laughing at our own mistakes – I feel You freeing me to be who I am in You.

I literally hear You as we drive down the street listening to my kids singing along with their favorite Christian radio artists and my heart melts.

My being aches for You when I can only watch as my kids must make choices on their own – Abba Daddy, how do You watch me make foolish decisions everyday?

You watch me as I pace in the bathroom trying to get my anger back under control as little fingers curl under the door.

You allow me to breathe in Your peace in those moments I feel completely overwhelmed, outnumbered and alone.

As I simply return to Your promises, again, I know You have never let me down…

In You I find my purpose

In You I find my peace

In You I find my joy

In you…only in You is life for my ever thirsty soul

Fill me Daddy…

…after my 4 year-old finds the Mountain Dew stash

…when I find yet another soiled pull-up in the washer

…when I find my husband’s wallet in the washer

…when I have been rear-ended in the Walmart parking lot

…when permission slips and field trip funds are not quite matching-up

…when my child struggles to read

…when my child hates wearing hearing-aids

…when my child loses his hearing-aids

…when I ask You why he needs hearing-aids anyway

…when my child is made fun of at school

…when my husband has a bad day at work

…the morning after nobody gets any sleep (come Lord Jesus!)

Oh Abba Daddy, I know I am nothing without You. Thank You for opening my eyes to see that even though my quiet time may have a beginning and a too-soon end, my walk with You continues throughout the day. You speak to me through my craziness. God, you care about my little mommy mess and I don’t get how You can ever love me this much! Yet, oh how I crave being close to You, hearing Your voice, feeling Your embrace and always knowing that You love me.

Thank You for filling me and allow my love to overflow to my husband, my kids and make an awesome mess in my little mommy world!

Beautiful job Bethany. Such simple, beautiful reminders of God and how we can miss them if we aren’t looking. I, too love going for walks and looking at all His beauty in the flowers, trees, clouds and animals (we are in the country – goats, horses, cows, ducks, sheep) and oh how He fills us even when ……… Thanks for sharing. Debbie W. (Proverbs Ministries OBS Team)

    Bethany says July 25, 2014

    Debbie –
I LOVE the country! I’ve lived near mountains in the West, the plains of the central US and now gaze at amazing sunrise colors and swaying palm trees! I can just imagine the sights you have taken in over the years! Glad to share this moment with you friend!

Sabrina Ebert says July 23, 2014

A beautifully written out post…I love the fill me daddy parts right at the end where you list the problems but also love how you listed His goodness in everything first…creation speaks His wonder.

Much blessings

    Bethany says July 25, 2014

    Sabrina –
I originally wrote this as – well – a prayer for my prayer journal. As I wrote, I just felt led to share here as it just fit perfectly into the week’s theme. I agree it really flowed and love watching what God does through these simple prayers. He is so good to me…crazy how much He loves us!

Nancy Silvers-Proverbs 31 OBS Team says July 23, 2014

Beautiful, Bethany! I love how you share that God is in every minute of every day, all we need to do is take time to see Him! God Bless you sweet sister!

    Bethany says July 25, 2014

Thanks Nancy! Still learning to seek Him in every moment…but when I’m looking for Him, He never ceases to disappoint! I just love knowing that even though my “quiet time” ends that my time in His presence continues all day! That’s just awesome! I just can’t put it into words!

Shelly says July 23, 2014

This is beautiful Bethany! I love how you wrote of finding God in everyday moments. Isn’t it amazing how near He is if we only choose to see Him? Your post makes me smile this morning and reminds me to see Him today. Thank you, friend! xoxo ~ Shelly (OBS Team)

This is something so many can relate to. Take comfort in this. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! We all have those kind of days, but we also need to be reminded that we are never alone. God is always by our side. So… keep on talking to him and keep on writing! 🙂

    Bethany says July 25, 2014

    Mary –
You are so right! In the moments that I seem to feel the most alone, I forget that He is not constrained by my immediate circumstances. Love inviting Him into my chaos and make my mess into His message. Thank you for your continued encouragement friend!

Theresa Krier says July 26, 2014

I loved everything about this post but my favorite part was when you said:My being aches for You when I can only watch as my kids must make choices on their own – Abba Daddy, how do You watch me make foolish decisions everyday?” It’s right where I am. (I also shared this on FB). Thank you Bethany. Enjoy the conference.

    Bethany says July 26, 2014

    Theresa –
Oh wow…love how God unites moms hearts through blog posts! My boys are still young, which means a lot more heartache to come! So glad you visited and shared this with me! Thank you!

Anita says July 26, 2014

You make it so simple…THANK YOU!

    Bethany says July 26, 2014

    Anita –
I wrote this post originally in my prayer journal and it’s the first time I really shared my journal on my blog. Funny how simply yet complex our intentional time with God can be. I think so many times we make time with God too complicated when all He want is us. I’m still learning, I struggle to slow down…but God never ceases to amaze me by choosing to love me through my little world… Thanks for commenting!!! Stay simple!

Elizabeth says July 26, 2014

Hello Bethany. I came accross your blog from the PS31 bible study group. I live in Nigeria so I haven’t been able to fully participate but I still get enough from the emails to fill me up. God bless you for these words/thoughts. I struggle sought with being a good wife, mother and everything in between but I’m reminded now that Abba Daddy really loves me and is cheering me on. God bless you over and over again. Thank you so much. I’m all kinds of warm and good on the inside now ! Truly blessed by this..

    Bethany says July 26, 2014

Oh Elizabeth…I wish you were closer!!! You sound like someone I would LOVE to have coffee with sometime! So glad God was able to speak to you, hold you and breathe life into you…and I pray you continue to be filled by Him way after the words from this post has ended. Praying for you friend! Be filled! You are indeed chosen by Him!

Alice says July 27, 2014

Very beautiful! Thank you, Bethany. It’s an inspirational message. I need to add God more in my everyday life. To see God in all the wonders of life . To see God when I look at my children. To see Him when I’m cleaning spilled milk of the floor for the tenth time they day. Your message is great and I thank you for sharing. May God continue to bless you and your family. Much love in Christ.

    Bethany says July 28, 2014

    Alice –
It was hard not to smile while reading your comment! My routine tasks seem to be picking-up shoes, sorting laundry, cleaning the same “beloved” sippy-cup and again…picking-up shoes! Yet, if I choose to (and that’s my struggle) IF I let God speak into these moments, they don’t become routine anymore. I hate routine…I crave adventure and spontaneity. Thank God for His everlasting love that sparks newness in our ever-so routine mommy days!! Thank you for your comment friend! You made me smile!

Wambui says July 27, 2014

    Bethany says July 28, 2014

    Paige –
Wow – thank you for reading and commenting! I love this growing relationship I have with God and more than anything I want others to know the Abba I’ve gotten to know personally. I love it when God works the way He does! Smiling over here!

Brittney says July 27, 2014

Hello Bethany,

My name is Brittney and I’m 30 years old. I’m married and a mother of two. My daughters are 10 and 1. Your blog has touched my heart and has encouraged me to never stop looking for the beauty of God everyday. I have to admit this year alone hasnt been easy. After losing my job in January and then vowing to surrender everything I am to God including my hurt, pain and bitterness. This week I found myself depleted and on the brink of hopelessness. Money has been extremely tight and I’ve been resentful towards my husband for everything he does wrong. Lord knows he is doing his best, but all I’ve been seeing is what we dont hv, havent had and how will it ever be enough to give a future to my girls. If I’m always angry how can God use me to poor into my girls or my husband who is also broken. I have no one around who understands how I feel but God. This blog has encouraged me, because I use to try and look for the beauty of God in my life. My life has been filled with rejection, hurt and pain from my past. I fight every day not to hold on to it, and in the midst of fighting I forgot how simple but wonderful the beauty of God can be. As you said listening to my 10 yer old sing gospel songs. Or how when I sneak away to have prayer time in my closet my 1 year old no less than two minutes later is shuffling at the door for me to let her in…lol. Thank you for helping to smile from the heart again with this. I love my family, and I believe God loves me, but I struggle with transferring his love for me unto them. Thanks for allowing me to share.

    Bethany says July 28, 2014

    Brittney –
Your comment was so beautifully humble and transparent. If you were standing with me friend, I would grab a coffee (okay, frappe) and after a hug I would love to listen to more of your story. Yet from here, let me tell you that I have tasted pain and rejection, though different from yours, and it begs to define us. Satan wants that pain, Thant anger…those lies to define us. Fight back. It’s hard…I know…I’ve felt like I lost this battle Somedays when all I seem to see around me is hopelessness…I’ve wanted to crumble, dig a pit and fall-in. I’ve been there. Yet, God has seen it all and Brittney, He is right there with you right now, whether you believe it or not, whether you choose to see Him or not. Please know that you are not alone…never alone in your struggles. As sisters in Christ, we know we will let one another down, but God will never let us down. He loves you more than you will ever know. Keep looking for Him!

    Bethany says July 28, 2014

Brittney, My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts…And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8, 9 NLT)

Brittney, come close to Me and I will come close to you. (James 4:8a)

Brittney, you know how much I love you, and you have put your trust in My love. I AM love, and all who live in love live in Me, and I live in them. (1 John 4:16 NLT)

Jessica says July 28, 2014

Bethany, you have NO idea how much I needed to read your blog this morning … especially the hearing aid lines. Our 4-y.o. daughter receives her first tomorrow and, on so many levels, I’ve struggled with why. So, in a simple response, thank you. Beautiful blog for Proverbs 31/Am I Messing Up My Kids?.

    Bethany says July 28, 2014

    Jessica –
Oh how I remember the rush of emotions and confusion I felt when our lil guy, only a few days old, failed his newborn hearing screening not once, not twice but THREE times (and yes, I was still in denial). I just want you to know that our little man is doing okay…with and even without the aids in. I also wear hearing-aids for severe hearing-loss…it can get interesting around here with hearing-aid batteries rolling around! Please, contact me if you ever just need to talk to a parent that “gets it.” I want you to know that I am praying for you right now! Feel free to contact me and let me know how the fitting goes tomorrow! I have resources too of you need anything!

Stephanie @ CrayonMarks&TigerStripes says July 28, 2014
