I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?
Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!
In order to keep my head on straight while working a full-time ministry position, while trying to be a mom of two kids both under the age of 3 and supporting a husband as he continues his education – I continually feed myself daily both with the Bible and with knowledge that can help me live life a little better. Sometimes I feel like life owns me, other times I feel like I have control over my life. In either situation my time in open dialague in humbleness before God gets me through anything. Feeding my brain knowledge from multiple sources helps me understand the world and how we are always changing.
The church sometimes fails to change with the world. Have you noticed that? Granted, churches have reasons for not changing due to finances, staffing and building layout. Yet, funny…if we continue to refuse change brought on by the social media revolution as seen above, we will not be able to know our community, nor effectively obtain the means to outreach effectively. We will be more comfortable living in our four walls, rather than seeing the writing ON the wall.
There is a balance and yes, I’m still in the process of discovering exactly where that is.
But one freakishly scary thought – I’m seeing the impact personally of words shared through social networking that can bring deep harm within the boundaries of a church. Its almost as if we can’t approach our best friend face-to-face, yet we will post something on Facebook that will passive-aggressively denounce their character…and we return on Sunday, knowing full well that everyone knows what has been done and we go through the motions like nothing is wrong…as if our online and offline lives never meet. Really? The instances I’m seeing lately are not coming from kids or teenagers…but adults!
So, with this being said, I wanted to start, first, here on my personal field of play in this vast social network and go on record saying, “I’m taking a social media BREAK.” Sometimes I feel like posting on Facebook or posting on a blog somehow puts a false reality in the authors head that he or she has resolved an issue…when in reality that have simply stirred up the pot of emotions and shared their thoughts with the world. So, I’m taking a break (may be short…may be long) but I’m watching my words here from this point forward. May this be a place others can go for encouragement. A place where others can be lifted up. A place which helps others conquer their fears.
Because you see…don’t you? Just like squeezing toothpaste out of a tube is fun and easy, getting the paste back in is nearly impossible. Words come out now faster than ever and yes, social networking makes them fun. But taking our words back, after sharing them with the world is merely impossible.
