I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?
Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!
Sometimes, I become so focused on what isn’t right in my little world, I forget how incredibly blessed I am. I know Thanksgiving is always that time where Facebook becomes saturated with endless “Days of Thanks” posts from friends that start out strong, but never seem to end quite right. Funny how hard it is to pin point our gratitude when we simply get used to being completely spoiled.
If you want to be happy, you need to find people and items that make your life purposeful.
If you want to have joy, you see yourself as His child, thanking Him daily for the obvious blessings, but also in the not so obvious, gentle whispers. I might not always be happy, but I can always have unending joy through my time with Abba.
I love this activity of listing our thanks as we walk through the alphabet. Max Lucado illustrates this perfectly in his latest book Before Amen: The Power of a Simple Prayer
I’m borrowing his idea as I share my list over my next two blog posts.
If you would like to share your list, leave it in the comments and I’ll add it right in!
Here we go!
A – Amazing Abba: I just can’t get enough of this incredible relationship our God, our Daddy chooses to have with us – His children.
B – Balls: I know it sounds weird…but our youngest LOVES balls. Any type. Any size. These items daily remind me to take a break and play. Bounce. Laugh. Enjoy life at its finest moment.
C – Caden: He is our middle kiddo…our blanket boy! With a smile of gold and too smart for his own good, life just wouldn’t work without him.
D – Dessert: I do well at attempting to eat healthy, but ice-cream and make-your-own-brownie night are still a bonding time at out house!
E – Eating Meals Together: I’ve been amazed at the older and wiser moms that have taken the time to invest in my crazy mommy moments. I have heard time and time again how important family meals can be. Now, I get it. With only 2 meals a week with everyone home, these times are so dear to me now. I don’t remember the meal, but the conversation, the smiles, the laughter and the expressions linger in my heart for days afterward.
F – Friends: I’ve been overwelmed by new friendships made this year through Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies, this blog, my church, Toastmasters, the kids school and so many places! I’ve truly never felt more connected in my life!
G – Good Books: Over the summer and the past few months, I’ve witnessed my older boys go from “Mommy, can you read this” to “Mommy, can I read this to you?” Oh the books that leave us with wonder, laughs and a sense of accomplishment. Love this new chapter in our life!
H – Hats: After losing your hair, you just never think of hats the same way. No, I’m not a “hat” girl…but I can’t wear one without thanking God for having hair again. I remember the first time I panicked that I needed a brush again (and seriously had to go buy one because it had been forever since I used one).
I – Iced-Tea: Our older boys love iced-tea. Whenever Publix offers their buy 1 Get 1 Free on their country loving sweet tea, well, our family celebrates. Seriously…just keeping it real.
J – Joshua: This is our oldest kiddo. His empathy for others is so deep…it amazes me. He is still at the age where he speaks his mind openly and I’ve learned so much through his sharing. And he has amazing photography skills…scary actually!
K – Keys: A year ago, I walked back to an empty bedroom in our house. I sat on the floor with a pair of shiny, silver keys. It was a few weeks until Christmas and we had received a huge answer to our prayers. We needed a place to live. God answered. Here we stood. It seemed unbelievable at the time…but God hasn’t stopped loving us yet!
L – Loud Noises: Yes. We have three boys. Our house has always been loud, but I never really understood how close we came to the sound barrier until a few months ago. My old hearing-aid had broken to the point it was un-repairable. God completely knew what I needed and provided not just one, but two new aids through the Foundation For Sight & Sound. It has been the first time in my life where I hear stereo. It has completely changed my life and the way I hear it forever. God is good.
M – Matthew: He is our youngest child. He, by far, is the happiest baby we have had. He has a contagious smile and laugh brings excitement into our home regardless on what is going on in our world. He is our miracle baby and is showing us how to live boldly everyday.
