I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?
Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!
I think everyone in ministry has a “Give Away” book that sits on the corner of their desk…or in the easiest accessible place on the bookshelf to do just that…give away to the casual person that walks in the door and wants to fall into a relationship with God. You know, those that have hit rock bottom…the ones that are no longer pretending…the ones that admit life is hard and doesn’t make sense. Those are the people I look forward to meeting on a weekly basis and this is the ministry my heart beats for…it keeps me going and gives me hope. Yet, I want to give these people more than a Bible…I want to give them a small book that is straight talk that after they read through the first few pages they think, “Oh heck yea…I have to keep reading this…” Its a way I can stick with them, without actually being with them.
Andy Stanley’s “Since Nobody’s Perfect, How Good Is Good Enough?” does what I stated above. I’ve read this before and as the book states, it takes the average reader 2 hours to read…but the topic is one that really, everyone has thought about. In essence, Andy spends most of his time not defending the initial title, but instead answers, “How do we know where death leads.” In reality, doesn’t this thought flicker in the souls on those lost. It does. I know. I’ve been there. The way Andy presents the Good News in this book is by guiding the reader like he is having a conversation with them. By the end of the book, you feel like you know Andy and a bit more about what it means to live life to its fullest. I really can’t say more…its written by an amazing speaker that literally shines through these pages too.
So, if you have that friend that doesn’t like to read, but has the questions everyone is asking…I’d give them this book. If you are teaching a group of teens the foundations of faith, read a chapter a week and then discuss. If you are in ministry, buy a few of these books (available by the case on Amazon) pair it with an easy to read Bible and use it as your “Give Away” resource. Its the best I’ve found and I’m sticking with it to the end!
It must be noted that I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.
