Ready To Walk On Water?

I love Peter's experience of walking on the roaring sea with Jesus. But the thing is, Peter's story is often misunderstood. Do you have a step you need to take?

Listen to this message I gave at a women's retreat to gain the fresh perspective you need to see Jesus in a new way! My FREE gift to you!

I’m Flying (Under The Stars)!

WORD FOR THE WEEK: BLESSING

If you were fortunate to read the excitement in my post from last week, you will remember that my tribe was busy packing for a trip. An adventure indeed beyond their dreams.

A journey to which my kids were clueless as to the final destination.

After close to three hours of road travel time (and bathroom breaks) our full van finally turned into the parking lot. My boys just sat there, somewhat disappointed…

There was no motel or paradise.

There was no movie theater.

There definitely wasn’t a pool.

But there was a little sign with two very important words…

I waited as they looked around…

“Mom, where is the motel?”

“Mom, why is that guy taking our bags out of the van?”

“Hey look, there is a sign…

“It’s says….it says…SERIOUSLY?!?!

CRUISE PARKING

Yes sweet friends, we went on a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas and we successfully kept the secret from our guys the entire month! I for one was excited that I was able to keep this in for so long! This, my friends, is one of the perks of living in Florida! Easier access to these quick vacations!

My favorite moment of blessing on this journey came as a complete surprise to me. You see, we had so many amazing highlights:

  • Sharing a room together (honestly, this went a lot better than originally expected!)

  • Tons of great family photos!
  • All meals were completely catered and nobody complained about what was served (just like “wow”)

  • Visiting Nassau with the boys and journeying through the town.
  • I was on a game show on stage along with my middle kiddo 🙂
  • Pools, hot tubs and water slides (and yes, I did them all with my boys yall!)

  • 2 islands with crystal clear blue water (insert really long and deep sigh here)
  • A private breakfast with Thing 1, Thing 2, Cat And The Hat and Sam I Am with my youngest! (I had green eggs and ham…Sam was thrilled that I liked it!)

If you have ever ventured onto a cruise, you know that there is always something you can do. To find a little secluded area of quiet can sometimes be a bit difficult (but with three kids, I was expecting anything but quiet in all honesty). But the last night, God touched my heart in the most amazing way.

Our entire family had made our way to the very top of the ship to play one last round of miniature golf. It was well after 10pm in the evening, but our three boys were completely wired. They quickly made their way to the very front of the ship while we waited for golf balls and putters. We looked up into the beautiful star-filled sky. It was quiet and it was if all of us just exhaled deeply together. I met eyes with each of my boys as they stared endlessly into the sky. We looked for the North star and then the Big Dipper. We just laughed as the wind from the moving ship hit our face.

Yes friends, I even recreated the scene from the Titanic movie “Look Jack, I’m flying, I’m flying!”

It was in the midst of the stars, the gentle wind and the giggles that I felt God gently hold my heart close to His. In a world filled with so much noise, He continually draws me into the simple quietness of His love. There will always be so much to do, but truly these moments of just stopping together is what I long for the most.

“Bethany, I determine the number of stars and call them each by name” Psalms 147:4 NIV

I am blessed because He knows my name and I am His.

I am blessed by three amazing boys.

I am blessed to be loved.

I am blessed to sit under the stars every night with the Creator Himself.

Have you stepped away from the noise to rest in the quietness of His love? You indeed are blessed my friends!

Now to continue unpacking….unpacking our sandy memories 🙂

Dare to do more than just survive, step out (under the stars) and THRIVE!

Bethany, I’m so glad I’m next to you today at fmf. We just went on a cruise with our family (yes the bedding situation was interesting in those tiny rooms!) so I can totally relate to the fun and the search for quiet. Your flying moment and the stars with boys made my eyes tear up. So beautiful. Way to keep that epic secret too! That’s seriously awesome. Thank you for sharing that huge blessing. Keep writing. Your work is good, my friend.

    Christina,
You are SO encouraging my friend and I am glad someone else understands the joy of smashing an entire family into 1 room 🙂 It brought a smile to my face to see you in the discussion this week! 🙂

Thank you for sharing about your surprise vacation. My husband and I will definitely have to try surprising our kids with a vacation sometime. We will be going on vacation later on this Summer and my kids keep on asking me how many days. and it is still months away. 🙂 I hope that you have a lovely weekend!

    Jolene,
I had the SAME issue with my kids asking about upcoming events and activities! Oh man is it insane! We count “sleeps” in our house! This was hard for me to keep because I just get excited about pretty much anything and everything. But it was worth it! Thank you for spending time here this week my friend!
